The project

The project “Amerino©. Integrated actions for the territorial strategy of the food of the Amerino landscape,” financed by measure 16.7 of the RDP for Umbria, is promoted by the 11 administrations of the Amerino region: the municipality of Amelia project leader, Alviano, Attigliano, Avigliano Umbro, Baschi, Giove, Guardea, Lugnano in Teverina, Montecastrilli, Montecchio, and Penna in Teverina.

“Amerino©. Integrated actions for the territorial strategy of the food of the Amerino landscape” aims to define a territorial development strategy and enhancement of food as a key element for territorial innovation, creating a cooperation between public and private subjects of the territory and the consequent construction of the brand “Amerino©” as a flywheel of the territory itself.

Agriculture in the Amerino territory, characterizes individual landscapes, creates places and meanings that define the quality of life, reactivates social relations and triggers forms of economic development, protects the environment and human health. The food produced is seen, in function to the project, as a driving force for landscape enhancement, a vector for economic development and a territorial attractor. The quality of the “places” of Amerino is accompanied by the value of its products, which offer unique experiences, narrate the peculiarities of a system of territories connoted by their continuity, but also characterized by specificities.

Models of cooperation

Food as a relationship

Food is a necessity, increasingly delicate in the current international instability, but also a great opportunity for storytelling, which is primarily projected to respond to community needs and to be an element capable of activating interest from outside territorial boundaries. Placing emphasis on the theme of food is functional to the current cultural transfiguration in society of the “good to eat” image as “good to see and think about.” Language, culture, cultural heritage, symbol, habitus, and lifestyle are all neuralgic elements for rethinking rural development, which need structural interventions on marketing issues and the role of digital, open services and tools that can contribute operationally to reactivate relationships that the global market has loosened and that lay at the foundation of development.
It is for this reason that the Amerino© project aims to create new tools for this territorial compartment, intervening primarily on five axes:

the administrative infrastructure, with the rethinking of the role of municipalities in food policies;
the digital infrastructure, with the creation of a “virtual square” capable of bringing together supply and demand even beyond the aspects of product sales;
the communicative infrastructure, with the creation and enhancement of the brand “Amerino©” to which will be associated a distinctive visual identity that will be used for the marketing and communication campaign, in order to promote the identity excellence of this territory, in the areas of food and wine, culture, landscape, art and folklore;
the narrative infrastructure, with the rethinking of new forms of territorial storytelling;
the relational infrastructure, with actions aimed at the participation and integration of the territory’s stakeholders so as to broadly involve the entire Amerino territory by creating and strengthening the networks of proximity.

In fact, the path of the Amerino© project proposes to put in synergy a series of actions, services, tools and events that can succeed in bringing out the values inherent in the relationships of proximity, proposing actions on the identification of products, the construction of common services, the enhancement of places and events. In this perspective, the involvement of local farms and production becomes driving and preponderant, the producers are in fact, in this perspective, seen as ambassadors of the typical landscape, rural and productive characteristics of the territory, but they are also unique witnesses of the production sector and also of the needs of the territory and as entrepreneurs on the territory and as private citizens. 

The project proposal

Identifying the relationship between products, places and communities makes it possible to highlight the multifunctionality of agriculture that denotes the characteristics of individual landscapes, creates places and meanings that define the quality of life, reactivates social relations and triggers economic development, and protects the environment and human health. Food then becomes the nodal element that can bring out the externalities that agricultural activity produces in the territory, a fundamental tool for storytelling in the communication society. In this regard, the promoted action aims at building a system of relationships among agricultural enterprises, even of limited size, that can succeed in associating themselves in a protection and enhancement of the territorial brand protracted by the administrative reality. In fact, starting from the analysis of the inability of individual territories to be able to respond autonomously even to their internal needs, the proposal wants to find in the enhancement of individual territorial specificities that potential necessary to be able to present an aggregate offer congruent with the needs of contemporary times. It is then a matter of projecting endogenously toward the local community, and exogenously toward a unified image of tourism promotion that places the qualities of the place in synergy with its products.

Concretely, the project proposal intervenes synergistically on five axes:

the innovation of administrative infrastructure, with the proposal of shared solutions focused on the role of public administrations;

the innovation of digital infrastructure, with the creation of a “virtual plaza” where a series of meetings can take place;

the innovation of the modes of storytelling, with a rethinking of the narration of the qualities of the place according to contemporary logics; the enhancement of the brand “Amerino©”, to which will be associated a distinctive visual identity that will be used for an important marketing and communication campaign to promote the identity excellence of this landscape, not only in the wine and food sphere, but also cultural, landscape, artistic and folkloric;

finally, the relational infrastructure, with actions for the participation and integration of the area’s stakeholders, with the proposal being open in a broad sense to the entire community. 

How to join

The proposal on food therefore aims to safeguard the landscape through processes designed to enhance the care of the place, where food guarantees the possibility for the community to recognize the broader value and role of agriculture for the protection and promotion of the territory and the environment, in a logic nonetheless substantiated by a slow culture: at the center is placed the person, the local community, health and the environment, the history and the story that places and products offer, the rediscovery of the meanings of traditions and the activation of innovation processes that place “good living” at the center.
